Smartphones in the era of Covid-19. All on the assault of the mid-range

by admin

Over 1,500 euros for a smartphone, 2,000 if it has a folding screen. Crazy figures according to many. But the reality is quite different. Of course it is true that they cost more than a TV, but still less than a Gucci or Luis Vuitton bag, magnificent objects that do not carry extraordinary technologies (very often introduced for marketing purposes). In any case, a high-end smartphone such as an Apple iPhone 12 Pro or a Samsung S21 Ultra are luxury items.

Are the declared performances of the top models excessive and considered useless by most? It is a nonsense speech: even a Porsche or a Ferrari are not completely rational objects as is the German mega premium SUV. The point is in fact the desire to own an exclusive object for qualities and finishes also for the ancient taste of exhibiting and status, or for passion.

The question at this point is only one

Can you spend less without suffering hideous performance and obscene displays? The answer is yes, as long as you don’t ask for the Moon (and maybe want to photograph it). Just turn to the many mid-range smartphones that for figures between 350 and 500 euros offer many of the features of flagships which also have huge, unmanageable displays, and so many may prefer an iPhone12 to a pro, an S21 to an Ultra. And in any case, even the tops are organized in families made up of different models. Apple offers the iPhone SE, Samsung offers, for example, the A range. Xiaomi boasts a mid-range offer and also a brand, baptized Poco, dedicated to value for money. And Oppo has just launched the A94, A74, and A54 mid-range models.

It can also be sensible to buy a top of the range from the previous series: new models come out every year but the “old” ones are far from obsolete even in terms of design. And they cost a lot less. Finally, an option that can also be dressed in green and ennobled by sustainability should not be forgotten: the refurbished smartphone, bought, for example, online on Amazon or on Swappie.
