Sony officially closes its $3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie

Sony x Bungie

Nearly half a year after Sony announced it would buy Bungie, the studio behind Destiny and Halo, for $3.6 billion, the deal is now finally settled. According to the agreement between the two parties, Bungie will continue to operate as an independent multi-platform studio and publisher in the future. So for players, at least in the short term, there should be no need to worry or look forward to PlayStation exclusives.

According to TechCrunch, Sony bought Bungie because of its potential in live service games. At an investor meeting in May, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan revealed that they will invest 55% of PlayStation’s budget on this type of work by 2025. It is expected that before March 2026, the PlayStation camp will launch 10 instant service games, and Bungie is expected to play a very important role in the preparation process.
