Spain, the law introducing menstrual leave is coming: three days a month. First country in the West

Three days a month from leave of absence for women suffering from severe menstrual pain. This is foreseen by a draft law of the Spanish government, which is expected to be approved in the course of next week. As we read on the TelegraphMadrid is therefore about to become the first Western country to offer such a right, currently present only in some Asian countries – including Japan, South Korea and Indonesia – and in Zambia. According to reports from the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics, about a third of women with periods suffer from dysmenorrhea – the uterine pain that accompanies menstruation – and the percentage increases if the premenstrual phase, which is also often painful, is also counted. Symptoms also include headache and diarrhea.

The Secretary of State for Gender Equality Angela Rodriguez he said that “If someone has a disease with such symptoms, temporary disability is granted: the same should apply to the menstrual cycle. The law also includes some measures to improve women’s health during their period, such as requiring schools to provide sanitary pads. It also aims to remove VAT from the price of sanitary pads, meeting the demands of Spanish women. The Spanish government also plans to expand the right to abortion, eliminating the obligation that provides for the accompaniment of parents for those who are 16 or 17 years old.
