Survey Shows Danish Consumers are Highly Aware of Animal Welfare Labels

The Danish Food and Nutrition Administration has recently released the results of a survey conducted by YouGov, revealing that the vast majority of Danish consumers are familiar with the State Animal Welfare Seal “Bedre Dyrewelfærd” (Best Animal Welfare). This label, which features one, two, or three green hearts to indicate the level of animal welfare provided by meat or dairy producers, has gained recognition among 77% of the population in 2023. This marks an increase of 8% from 2020, demonstrating a growing awareness of animal welfare standards in the country.

The survey also highlighted that Danish families with children are particularly knowledgeable about the label, with 85% of respondents in this group recognizing it. This suggests a strong interest and concern for animal welfare among consumers, especially when it comes to the products they purchase for their families.

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries in Denmark has welcomed the positive response to the State Animal Welfare Seal, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in the food industry. With increased awareness and understanding of animal welfare standards, consumers can make more informed choices that align with their values.

Overall, the survey results indicate a promising trend towards greater consideration for animal welfare in the Danish food market. As more consumers become aware of the State Animal Welfare Seal and its significance, it is hoped that this will lead to improved conditions for animals in the agricultural sector.
