“Tablet killed the Pc stars”? Not yet, at least for Lenovo

by admin

According to a Censis study commissioned by Lenovo, 91.5% of Italians usually connect to the Web, and 74% of these do so with at least two devices.

A data that makes you think, but not too surprising, not after a pandemic that has transformed computers, smartphones and tablets into the only windows on the world for millions of people (or billions, thinking on a global scale). Is exactly tablets are the protagonists of the latest announcement of the Chinese company, the first computer manufacturer in the world, but ready to exploit all the opportunities of an ever-changing market. The new models of the P series (which stands for Premium, but also for Productivity) and Yoga seen and tested by hand aim at versatility and offer common basic characteristics, such as the maximum 2K resolution or the presence of 4 Jbl speakers with technology support Dolby Atmos: specifications designed for entertainment, but also included in models aimed at those who use a tablet more to work.

There are, however, some important differences, starting from the price and the size of the screen, above 300 euros and 10 inches respectively.

It’s called the MateBook 14s and it’s Huawei’s new premium laptop

Tab P11 5G
The P11 5G is added to the P11 and P11 Pro models, already available from May, the main novelty of which is already evident in the name: the 5G module (via nanoSim), which allows you to stay connected even outside the confines of the home or office. A model born of his time and of the new normal, one might say, who finally sees us go out more often after months spent indoors. Equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 8-core processor, Android 11 operating system and an 11-inch Ips Lcd screen with 2K resolution, it seemed solid in construction, but light (520 grams) and with a simple, but elegant, as well as precise design. to the touch.

According to Lenovo, 7700mAh battery allows up to 14 hours of use: we appreciated the sound offered by the 4 speakers, the cameras seemed less exciting to us, both the 8 Mp front one and the 13 Mp rear one, sufficient for video calls, but not to immortalize your precious moments. It will be available at the beginning of 2022 in 3 different colors (gray, white and teal) and two different cuts of Ram and internal memory (6 Gb Lpddr4 and 128 Gb or 8-256, expandable with microSD up to 1 Tb) starting from 649 euros.

Tab P12 Pro
The Tab P12 Pro is the high-end model. Same 2K resolution of the premium line, but the difference lies in the display, larger (12.6 ”) and Amoled, which results in a cleaner and more defined image. Compared to the P11 5G, the price goes up: it starts at 999 euros (without the case with keyboard and the optional Precision Pen), but the specifications also change. The battery, more capacious (10,200 mAh), brings the promised duration to 17 hours, thanks also to a self-adaptation function which, based on use, automatically changes the refresh rate of the screen, passing from 120 Hz when gaming, in the cloud or not, to 60 when surfing or consult the emails. Double memory cut here too, identical to that of the P11, but the difference is in the type of Ram (which here is Lpddr5); the rear cameras are two, one from 13 Mp and one wide from 5. The P12 Pro will also arrive in the first months of 2022.

Yoga Tab 11
The first element that intrigues the Yoga Tab 11 is the form factor: it is less visionary than the ThinkPad X1 Fold, but on the other hand, you can literally hang it anywhere. The steel support, adjustable and the main suspect for the name of the line, transforms it into a sort of technological case to carry around, or to be used as a 3.0 frame.

Irony aside, what matters is the possibility it offers to place it on surfaces of various kinds. The soundbar integrated in the lower part (or upper, depending on the positioning), does not stand out from an aesthetic point of view, but also here the 4 Jbl speakers they seem to do their job very well. The cylinder also includes the micro-Hdmi input that allows you to transform the Yoga Tab into a secondary portable screen with which to expand that of the PC; and there is also support for the Precision Pen 2 (optional). However, the main focus is on entertainment: this can be understood from the display, a Tddi 2K LCD that covers 84% of the device in its entirety, but also from the software, with the integration of Google’s Entertainment Space, hub in which all multimedia contents and entertainment apps (from Disney Plus to Netflix, to video games) come together. The battery is still 7700 mAh, but the declared duration is 15 hours and you can choose between various combinations, with 4-8 Gb of Ram and 128-256 Gb of storage space, with and without Lte. The processor is an octa-core MediaTek Helio G90T, the front and rear cameras are both 8 Mp. It is already available and the price starts at 549 Euros.

Yoga Tab 13
The Yoga Tab 13 is the more powerful version of the Tab 11, with larger and more defined screen (13 inches, 2160 x 1350 resolution and Ltps technology), similar memory cuts (here Lpddr5 and 8 Gb in both versions), and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, also with 8 cores. The first impressions on the use of video content are positive, but the feeling is that you risk being less practical and portable than the younger brother: the slot for the nanoSim is missing, it is slightly heavier (830 grams against 655) but above all, despite the battery being larger (10,000 mAh), it promises a few hours less autonomy, that is 12, thanks to the higher consumption attributable to the more performing screen. Even the Yoga Tab 13 is already available, but the cost is higher than the 11: it starts at 899 euros.

pc and progress

What if we forget about files and folders in the future?

by Lorenzo Fantoni

Is the tablet the new PC?
“We don’t think there is a substitution between devices, what we think is that there is more and more segmentation of devices”, he explained. Federico Carozzi, Head of Product Marketing at Lenovo Italy. The desktops or laptops remain the only option for numerous software of a productive and entertainment nature, thanks to the greater power (also) of the video cards, expandable Ram and more performing processors, but the tablets have carved out a space for both entertainment and for productivity. Even for Lenovo itself: “Black and white do not exist, there are many shades of gray, and this is why the IT and technology market in general becomes more and more complex. There are infinite shades of necessity ”.
