When it is very hot, the temperatures seem unbearable in any corner of the house. This is why we often tend to go to the kitchen to open the fridge and drink thirst-quenching water as soon as possible. We put the bottle in the refrigerator to be able to enjoy fresh and not hot water, like the one outside the appliance. However, the drink could become too cold and, in some cases, ice cold. Sure, it might seem inviting to us and we might see it as the only solution to thirst and the only relief from the heat. But drinking water at temperatures that are too cold could prove to be an insidious danger.
That’s why you shouldn’t drink ice water on a full stomach or after meals and in hot weather
Drinking ice water on a full stomach, but even after meals, would always be inadvisable. This can be a danger, especially when the body may be in the digestive phase. The digestive process would involve a certain flow of blood into the stomach. And also in the intestine. This would be a rather delicate phase. And a glass of ice-cold water in the stomach, right in the middle of this process, could cause serious danger. This is because it would activate a vasoconstriction that could alter the digestive capacity of the intestine and stomach. The result would give rise to a thermal shock, which could lead to congestion, even with collapse and loss of consciousness.
How to quench your thirst without taking risks
This is why you shouldn’t drink ice water. During meals, but also after these. In order not to take risks, we can quench our thirst and find relief from the heat by following some precautions. We are not obliged to leave the bottles out of the fridge and drink them hot and annoying. Just take them out of the fridge and wait at least 15 minutes before drinking them. We can then try a very useful expedient to quench thirst and cool off from the summer heat.
That is, we can flavor our water with fresh and seasonal fruit and vegetables. For example, we can fill a carafe with plain water and soak slices of cucumber. Or add slices of lemon or strawberries to the water. You could keep the flavored water in a cooler and thus always have a fresh and thirst-quenching drink at hand. And that he would not take any health risks.
