The war is not over yet. Apple replied to the court on the 24th that Epic Games failed to propose a reasonable solution to replace the Apple Store policy at this stage.

Since the beginning of the war, Epic Games has attempted to legally force Apple to change the existing App Store specifications, but Apple believes that existing policies help promote competition, including protecting user security and privacy. At present, the situation is stalemate. It seems that it is not easy to confirm that “Fortress Hero” wants to return to the App Store to continue business.

A little precondition. In September 2021, the U.S. court issued a permanent injunction in the first instance, and Apple could not continue to prohibit developers from choosing third-party payment; Apple’s request to delay the injunction was rejected. Apple therefore appealed to the Ninth Circuit court and was granted a delay.

Apple’s appeal documents filed with the Ninth Circuit Court, obtained by 9to5mac. Apple accused Epic Games of trying to change the narrative. Apple believes that since the launch of the App Store, it has brought huge revenue to developers; moreover, based on the App Store specification and the ecosystem characteristics of iOS, users are less susceptible to malware infection.

At the same time, since the 23rd, Google has allowed some applications to provide their own billing system in the Google Play application store, such as Spotify (web link), and the mining division has begun to proceed.

However, Google and Apple take the same position. Both believe that the payment mechanism that comes with Google Play brings relatively secure information security strength.
