The ‘Guardia medica’ protests we are in danger of extinction – Liguria

“Doctors of the territory in danger of extinction”: is the protest banner unrolled in Piazza De Ferrari in front of the Liguria Region building by the doctors of the medical guard to denounce that “the situation in which the category finds itself is on the verge of the abyss. due to staffing problems, organizational shortages and salaries that have been inactive since 2005 “.
About seventy protesters in the square with white coats and T-shirts with the words ‘doctor in danger of extinction’. Continuity of care (former medical guard) is the service that provides home medical assistance at night and on holidays in continuity with the work of general practitioners. “Today we are about 200 doctors in Liguria, almost a hundred less than the optimal ratio of one doctor for every 5,000 inhabitants, – explains the provincial secretary for continuity of care in Genoa Marco Cardini – we suffer from a continuous reduction of doctors on duty, conditions of difficult work with interventions in increasingly large and densely populated areas, 15 years without any modernization of the service, neither instrumental nor training nor organizational, a salary that has been steady since 2005 which makes this profession of great social and health impact among the least paid in Italy “.

The discussion table with affiliated medicine and continuity of care has been convened for 21 July. Yesterday a representative of the continuity of assistance was convened at the Department of Health and Social Services for a preparatory meeting, positively evaluated by the technicians of the Region, to address some more urgent problems, such as workloads and shortages of personnel, in view of the more in-depth discussion at the plenary meeting on 21 July. Liguria Region has already expressed its willingness to evaluate some of the proposals put forward by the delegation. Regarding remuneration, the Region recalls that it is established by the recently signed national collective agreement.
