the hypothesis, first closures since the beginning of August – Libero Quotidiano

The Delta variant scares. In Italy as in all of Europe, the coronavirus does not give up. So much so that, and we have already talked about it in this article, even if no one officially confirms it, there is already reasoning about the return in some regions to the yellow zone. A bad omen, in short. A step backwards even compared to last summer.

And in this context, here is a circular from the Ministry of Health, whose message is very clear: we must accelerate on vaccine and tracking of infections, otherwise the infamous Delta variant is destined to rise to 70% of infections as early as August, to then reach 90% by the end of the month. In the same circular, moreover, it is taken for granted, in the event that the scenario is realized, that hospitalizations and deaths will also increase. To arrive then at the first closures, from the beginning of August.

Based on the current growth rate, in 3-4 weeks, in fact, the first closures could be reached, the first color changes. Second Pier Paolo Sileri, Undersecretary of Health, “within three weeks we will be 3-4 thousand infections a day”. To be understood yesterday, Saturday 10 July, 1,400 were registered. The infection mainly concerns young people: they travel, socialize and most of them are not vaccinated. However, hospitalizations remain low: they were 1,682 seven days ago, they are 1,308 today.

However, the scenario is changeable and unpredictable. And this is why the Ministry of Health has issued a circular in which it asks the Regions to strengthen tracking, the isolation of clusters and accelerating vaccinations, the only tool in the absence of containment measures.

But not only. The unpredictable trend of the Delta variant is putting the Green pass mechanism is also in crisis, in particular the possibility of allowing travel for unvaccinated people with antigen tests. And the case of Malta, with thousands of Italians blocked abroad because of positive results, is there to prove it.
