The landing of the An-225, the largest aircraft in the world that was supposed to carry spacecraft

In this video the landing of the Antonov An-225 ‘Mriya’ on the runway of Raf Brize Norton, a British Royal Air Force base near Brize Norton, in West Oxfordshire. The An-225 is the largest (in service) aircraft in the world. It is a cargo plane with six jet engines, a wingspan of 88.3 meters and a take-off weight that can reach 640 tons (the largest weight among the aircraft in service). The An-225, which is part of the Antonov Airlines cargo aircraft fleet, based in Kiev, Ukraine, made its first flight on December 21, 1988: it was originally designed to transport the spacecraft to the Baikonour Cosmodrome space Buran and the components of the Energia rocket, assembled elsewhere.

The Buran space program actually wrecked shortly thereafter and thus the An-225 became an aircraft intended for the transport of heavy and bulky goods. Its flights are rare, as are its sightings by enthusiasts. In the case of the video on this page, the An-225 landed last June 24 in the United Kingdom: it came from Karachi (Pakistan).
