For its part, Apple has instead insisted on the thesis that only by passing transactions and all data inside the Apple Store, and therefore leaving a 30% commission in Cupertino, it would be possible to maintain privacy, security, reliability and the experience users expect. Furthermore, access to the store would also guarantee the competitive advantage of being able to take advantage of all the tools made available by Apple for developers. According to Apple, Epic Games would like iOS to become like Android, but that’s not what users want. Apple would also have shown how this whole maneuver had already been extensively planned by Epic Games, which would also have sought the support of Microsoft.
Obviously, every process involves a passage of legal documents often protected by non-disclosure clauses, but when these documents are made public as part of a process it is possible to glimpse some interesting details on the future of Fornite and on the negotiation with Sony to open up to cross play. , that is, the possibility of having PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, mobile and PC users play with each other.
According to the plans of Epic Games in the coming months among the skins present within Fortnite will also be added those of Samus Aran, protagonist of Metroid, of some characters of Naruto, of LeBron James and of a plethora of characters belonging to pop culture such as The Rock, John McClane of Die Hard, Snake Plissken, Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen and probably Kill Bill’s bride.
As for other agreements, according to The Verge Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, would have declared that of all the companies that have collaborated for Fortnite only Sony would have asked for money to enable the cross play function, arguing that otherwise there would have been no no benefit to the company in sharing its rich user base with others.
