The Ministry of Health Awards 150 Positions for Internal Resident Doctors in Extremadura: 23 in Family and Community Medicine

The Ministry of Health has awarded 150 positions for internal resident doctors (MIR) in Extremadura in the ongoing process that opened on April 8 and will close this Friday. Of these positions, 23 are in the specialty of Family and Community Medicine.

Twelve of the positions are in the Badajoz Health area, seven in Cáceres, two in Mérida, and two in Don Benito-Villanueva. However, even with these placements, there are still 75 vacant positions out of the 98 available for Family and Community Medicine in Extremadura. Surprisingly, no doctors have chosen placements in Plasencia, Navalmoral de la Mata, Coria, or Llerena yet.

Last year, 27 positions in this specialty were left unfilled in the region, with 18 in the province of Cáceres and nine in Badajoz. This ongoing trend of unfilled positions suggests that there may be challenges in attracting doctors to certain areas within Extremadura.
