Alpine and Speleological Rescue Teams in Veneto Save 1219 People in 2023

In the year 2023, the operators of Rescue Alpine e Speleological Veneto carried out a total of 1095 missions, rescuing a total of 1219 people. These numbers reflect the overall interventions done throughout the year and show a slight decrease compared to the previous year, 2022.

The Rescue teams reported that the increase in interventions is partly due to the growing number of mountain enthusiasts and also to the lack of preparation and awareness among some people who venture into the mountains. They highlighted the importance of physical and technical preparation before facing the mountain environment.

Analyzing the trend observed for the Venetian Alpine and Speleological Rescue, it was noted that 43.7% of the rescued individuals were unharmed, which is a consistent percentage compared to previous years. Accidents on the track, on the other hand, have been steadily increasing due to the rising number of tourists in the valleys and surrounding areas.

In terms of fatalities, the number decreased to 59 in 2023, representing a 15.71% decrease compared to 2022. The causes of these accidents were attributed to factors such as lack of physical preparation, loss of orientation, delays in rescue, and self-harm cases due to social issues.

The report also highlighted that the percentage of individuals rescued without insurance coverage was extremely high, with 92.7% of the rescued individuals lacking insurance that covers recovery costs. This emphasizes the need for individuals to be aware of the benefits of having proper insurance in case of accidents.
