The problem with Facebook glasses

by admin

They all seem quite excited by these new Facebook glasses. Signed by Luxottica, and therefore with an all-Italian design. Classic Ray-Bans, not those sci-fi movie stuff we’ve seen so far. Ray-Ban Wayfarer classics with well-hidden electronics. Invisible. Cameras, cameras, microphones. All for less than $ 300, they bode well. And they will be a good test. They will serve to test when we really still care about privacy. When Google Glass came out it was a ruckus. There was a revolt not only of human rights organizations, but also of users. Did we really want to be photographed and filmed on the street without us noticing? Google withdrew them from the market. Yes, of course, it can also be done with a smartphone, but it is less easy. It is less easy to hide it. If, on the other hand, your pair of glasses suddenly films you and a tiny white light comes on on one side, it becomes difficult to notice. Details, but not so much. Wall Street Journal reporter Joanna Stern with the Ray-Ban Stories taped the mom, aunt, bartender and a few strangers without anyone noticing, she wrote. And Wired’s Peter Rubin immortalized his friends at a “secret” dinner. Jaime D’Alessandro for Repubblica also wandered around Porta Portese without anyone or almost anyone noticing that he could film or photograph anyone.
In short, it is a theme. Or we don’t care anymore. Is it okay to make it super easy to film anyone without them knowing? Or is there something wrong? Do we still consider privacy an important thing or an elderly legacy? The Ray-Ban Stories as we have said have many advantages, not least the fact that even downloads, even with an electronic problem, remain a great pair of Ray-Bans, they do not become useless. But among the advantages I also add that of putting our sense of privacy to the test with a convincing product: is it still there? We will see it soon.
