The threshold of 200,000 cases of Covid in one day in France – World has been exceeded

Daily infections continue to increase due to the 7th wave of Covid in France. According to the new health minister, François Braun, there have been over 200,000 in the past 24 hours, the highest number in weeks.

According to figures provided by the minister, in the last week of this epidemic resurgence caused by Omicron’s BA4 and BA5 sub-variants, cases have increased by an average of 120,000 units per day.

The most affected region is that of Paris, Ile-de-France, with 1,200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. For the minister, the arrival of the epidemic peak – albeit uncertain – could lie in 2 or 3 weeks. However, the number of 200,000 cases is a far cry from the peak of around 400,000 cases per day reached in January.

The minister confirms that these sub-variants do not differ from the others known so far of Omicron, extremely contagious but less serious than the original strain. The observation of the curve of increase in cases in the last few days has, however, highlighted a slight slowdown in progression. The patients admitted to hospital with Covid are 16,638, with a thousand new entries every day (a rather stable increase of 30% every week). The number of intensive care admissions is growing less, numbering 978, with 90 new admissions every day. The number of deaths remained stable at 45 daily.
