The turban as a fashion item: patients become models for a day

The turban conceived as “a fashionable and fashionable object”, easy to wear, versatile, comfortable, declined in precious fabrics and with details of jeweled stones and feathers. “No longer a simple hat, often used to hide, but as an accessory that completes, enriches, frees the fear of diversity”. Speaking is the designer from Catania Marco Strano who collaborates with the association ACTO Sicilia (Alliance Against Ovarian Cancer) on the project “Con.Tu.rbante, just because I like it”, for which he made 10 turbans. Presented by 10 women who became models for a day: 10 patients who are also the protagonists in a commercial, signed by the photographer and director Francesco Sciacca.

The spot and the exhibitions of turbans

The project, carried out with the unconditional support of Clovis Oncology, was presented last night at the Ardizzone Gioieni institute in Catania and “is dedicated to us women like us, who along the path of life we found ourselves having to deal not only with a subtle disease, but also with prejudices and compassionate looks ”, he underlined Daniela Spampinato, president of the association. “It is amazing the strength and joy that women, albeit in a difficult time, are able to express with simplicity and a sense of sharing”, adds the psychologist Sonia La Spina. The project has aroused great enthusiasm and great participation, so much so that it will be spread to the rest of Italy with the support of national ACTO and will see a series of exhibitions of turbans and portraits of ACTO women in the largest Italian cities. The spot was shot at Vittoria House of Charme in Messina, which made the property available, and the make-up artist Orazio Tomarchio from La Truccheria Cherie collaborated on the project.
