On August 8, 1908, the Wright brothers made the first public demonstration of air flight with a “flying machine”, a flying machine.
The first flight dates back to December 17, 1903, a Kitty Hawk, in North Carolina, a location that gave its name to the startup to make flying machines of one of the founders of Google. But at the time many in Europe were skeptical of the two brothers’ undertaking. To clear the field of doubts, Orville e Wilbur Wright they decided to repeat the challenge in Le Mans, France, where there was an automobile track.
They had become friends with an automobile manufacturer and the date of the flight, August 8, was chosen to celebrate the day their friend’s wife would have given birth to a child. The flight lasted just one minute and 45 seconds, but they were enough to convince everyone: a new era was beginning.
