There will be Bezos on Blue Origin’s first space journey

by admin

“Since I was five I have dreamed of traveling in space. On July 20 I will do it with my brother. The greatest adventure with my best friend”: Jeff Bezos, who founded Amazon, does not hide the enthusiasm for the journey he is about to make in a post on Instagram. For which he did not even have to buy a ticket considering that Blue Origin, an aerospace company that will operate the first tourist trip into space based in Kent (Washington), a Seattle suburb, founded it himself.

In 2009 the company was awarded by NASA with 3.7 million dollars with the agreement on the space within the commercial program (CCDev) for the development of concepts and technologies to lay the foundations for future human spaceflight operations. It received an additional $ 22 million during the second phase of the program.

In just over a month, therefore, the suborbital launcher New Shepard will take its first crew of astronauts into space. A seat remains on this first flight and an online auction has been set up on the Blue Origin website. The winner will be able to participate in the space journey. The current offer is $ 2.8 million. The auction will end on June 12th. The amount of the winning bid will be donated to the foundation of Blue Origin, Club for the Future, to inspire future generations to pursue careers in the Stem – scientific and technological disciplines – and help invent the future of life in space.
