Indeed, a recent study published in the scientific journal Nutrients examined the associations between dinner time and the risk of mortality from stroke, coronary heart disease e cardiovascular diseases. Let’s see what the results tell us.

I study

To carry out the research, 28,625 men and 43,213 women aged between 40 and 79 were involved, who were divided into three groups: the early dinner group (before 8pm), the irregular dinner group (therefore at always erratic times) and the late dinner group (after 8pm).

The researchers were able to prove that those who ate dinner at irregular times had a higher risk of mortality hemorrhagic strokewhich occurs when a blood vessel inside the skull bursts and bleeds in and around the brain. No significant association was found between dinner time and the risk of mortality from other types of stroke, such as an ischemic stroke. Furthermore, there was no evidence to suggest a link between mealtimes and the risk of coronary or cardiovascular disease. Researchers suggest that the right time to dine to decrease stroke risk is before 8pm.

However, the most main cause of hemorrhagic stroke remainshypertension, which can weaken the arteries in the brain and make them more prone to cracking or rupturing. Factors that could increase the risk of hypertension include:

  • obesity and being overweight,
  • drinking excessive amounts of alcohol,
  • to smoke,
  • lack of exercise,
  • stress.

Hemorrhagic stroke can also be caused by the rupture of a blood vessel (brain aneurysm) or abnormally formed blood vessels in the brain.
