This juicy seasonal fruit could fight cell and eye aging

We are what we eat, said a well-known philosopher, and indeed, not infrequently the effects of our diet go beyond the table. In fact, food is not just taste or satiety, but also the benefits we can derive from it.

To be exploited even more in the case of seasonal products. Foods available in a certain period of time and of which to eat big, joy for our palate and also for our body.

We are often not aware of what the hidden gifts of fruit are. We know it’s good but we don’t know specifically for what and which. In fact, many are unaware that this seasonal fruit could be an aid to fight aging of the eye and cells.

We are talking about grapes, the subject of the harvest, of which we have already provided advice.

Grapes are not only very tasty and allow us to make wine, but they have a particularly beneficial composition for us. Like all blue-purple foods, grapes also have anthocyanins.

Anthocyanins as reported by the Veronesi Foundation, would be a panacea for counteracting cellular aging. In fact, their antioxidant power would counteract free radicals. The latter are the products of oxidation, the introduction of oxygen into our cells, but also of smoking, alcohol and pollution.

Free radicals are unpaired molecules because they have lost an electron, they try to recover it by subtracting it from other molecules. In the long run, their action can damage our cells. The anthocyanins of grapes, on the other hand, would be excellent allies to avoid this deterioration.

Experimental study

The advantages of consuming grapes would not be limited only to the above, but could have a wider field of application. They could in fact also preserve the health of our eye.

It is what we learn from one American experimental study reported by the Veronesi Foundation itself. The retina of the eye is equipped with photoreceptors, some central which allow us to see clearly, the peripheral ones to orient us in the dark. The receptors, however, would undergo aging and worsening. This can happen in particular cases, but also simply over time.

However, according to the American study, grapes would be able to counteract this deterioration. The experiments carried out on mice would in fact have shown that the retina of those fed with grapes was better preserved despite subjected to oxidative stress.

Their retina retained the original thickness and functionality of the receptors, unlike that of other guinea pigs.

A discovery that if confirmed by further experiments could counteract the aging of the retina and also avoid degenerations that could lead to blindness.

So let’s eat lots of grapes, because this juicy seasonal fruit could fight the aging of cells and also of the eye.
