This seemingly harmless state of our health is often the antechamber of colon cancer

by admin

Some diseases are becoming more and more common and one wonders what it depends on. Although science has made remarkable progress, many people still die from cancers or other diseases. Today it is increasingly evident that inflammation is the main road to evil of the century. Great health experts say it, including prof. Alberto Mantovani, Professor of General Pathology at the University of Milan. We therefore begin to understand that this apparently harmless state of our health is often the antechamber of colon cancer.

Inflammation and cancer

Science tells us that cancer arises from genetic changes that take place in our cells. These “go crazy” and turn into cancer cells. Fortunately, this genetic mutation is rarely transmitted from parents to children.

In recent years, the relationship between inflammation and cancer has also become clear. Simplifying the concept, it could be said that some inflammations, with time and as a result of some other factors still under study by researchers, can turn into cancer. An example is inflammation of the intestine, which is the gateway to colon cancer. However, inflammation is not always something bad.

Chronic inflammations

In the face of external aggression, such as viruses or bacteria, our body defends itself by producing inflammation. This allows the problem to be isolated and the body’s defenses to intervene more readily. However, sometimes it is not possible to solve the problem and then, the inflammation becomes chronic.

Today a very common chronic inflammation is that of the colon. It appears that it is due to an imbalance of the intestinal bacterial flora. Among the bacteria that are present in our intestines are the good ones and the bad ones. As long as the two are in the right proportions, everything is fine. If, on the other hand, the good bacteria decrease, the bad ones take over, gradually causing inflammation of the intestinal tract. This in turn, as said by Prof. Mantovani, can turn into a tumor.

Proper nutrition

Several factors can cause this imbalance: pollution, stress, but also an incorrect diet. It is food that feeds the good or bad bacteria. The habit of always consuming certain foods can lead to a state of chronic inflammation of the colon. Among these we can find too acidic foods, sugar, eating few vegetables, preferring too many fried foods, etc.

Instead, it is useful to move towards a diet made of fresh rather than processed foods. Prefer organic products over those that have received pesticides or other chemicals. Health today also passes through proper nutrition.
