Three incredible technologies of the Audi Audi Q5 Sportback Hybrid

by admin

The world of plug-in hybrids, those to understand that they can be recharged at a power outlet by transforming themselves into real electric cars, continues to reserve surprises such as those – for example – just proposed by the new Audi Q5 Sportback TFSI Hybrid, a sportier version of the already note Q5. The first is linked to the possibility of radically changing the car under the customer’s seat: much more than a simple selection of the driving style. On this new German, the electronics allow to revolutionize not only the set-up and dynamic behavior of the car, but its “soul”, allowing you to choose between four different modes: fully electric (EV); primary use of the combustion engine, to maintain (Hold) or increase (Charge) the battery charge, in view of a subsequent electric drive. This latter system makes it possible to recover approximately 1% of charge for each kilometer traveled until the 80% energy threshold is reached. Or, you can opt for a mode that provides for the efficient interaction of the two engines (Hybrid).

“At the forefront of technology”: 50 years ago hi-tech entered the common language

Not only that: on the left of the Audi virtual cockpit, the digital instrumentation that replaces the classic instruments, there is a power indicator that constantly detects the most important information: such as the overall system power, the driving mode and the level of battery charge. In the center of the display, the data relating to the residual autonomy of both the electric motor and the combustion engine are shown. Information that can also be monitored by logging into the myAudi app.

In this way, the power unit, consisting of the 265 HP 2.0 turbo petrol engine combined with an electric motor and the S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, for a combined power of 367 HP is always under control. Among the subtleties – which give meaning to the mantra “at the forefront of technology“, there is also the “quattro Ultra” all-wheel drive system, which favors front-wheel drive, to consume and pollute less, sending torque to the rear wheels, through the crankshaft, only when the front ones lose grip. The pilot does not notice anything, or almost nothing, and the car works for him.

Another technology never seen before are the Oled rear lights, grouped into small segments and equipped with three-dimensional layouts, which not only provide unprecedented lighting, but also allow for record customization. With one click, the customer can choose between three different lighting design options for the rear lights, changing the style of the car. In addition, the light signature changes depending on the driving mode chosen. And then the rear lights with OLED technology are equipped with a proximity sensor: when the vehicle is stationary, a road user approaches from behind, within a radius of two meters, all the light segments are activated automatically, to signal the presence of the car.

And even the way to mount the battery of the electric motor is new: the accumulators are integrated under the loading area, so as to provide a trunk of approximately 455 liters, which can be expanded up to 1,365 liters with the seats lowered. A highly practical feature is the flexible rear bench, which can be tilted or moved back and forth as needed. But what is most striking in the passenger compartment are the two large color displays, the 12.3 “one of the virtual dashboard and the 10.1” one in the center of the dashboard of the MIB3 multimedia system: the latter, facing the driver, is rich of functions and responsive to the touch, and can only be controlled from the touch display (there is no longer, in fact, the knob of the old Q5 on the central tunnel). The MIB3 is connected to the internet and offers several services provided by the house via the web connection. The most spectacular? The Car-to-X, which communicates with the other Audi and offers information on parking, speed limits and potential dangers. In some cases the system connects to urban infrastructures to receive information on traffic lights and to suggest to the driver the speed to keep in order to switch to the green at the next intersection.
