It is a multisystem disease (that is, it affects different organs and parts of the body) that involves various symptoms ranging from erythema migrans, fever, headache, fatigue and weakness to more serious manifestations such as neurological complications and chronic sequelae.

Ticks appear as insects a few millimeters in size, have an oval, slightly flattened body with eight legs. The male specimens generally have a dark red-brown color, while the females are greyish.
