It happens a bit to everyone not to feel in perfect shape and in full strength. Often these conditions may not have a particular cause and should not be alarming. At other times, however, what appears to be a casual and momentary discomfort may have deeper roots and relate to some ailment we ignore.
A disease affecting the adrenal glands
Tiredness, sleepiness and mental confusion are quite common sensations that everyone will have experienced sometime. However, they would also fall within the symptoms of a disease called Addison’s disease.
The disease affects the adrenal glands compromising their ability to produce two hormones: cortisol and aldosterone. In addition to lethargy, it would also produce fatigue, muscle weakness and irritability in those who suffer from it, a sensation the latter sometimes also caused by a lack of vitamins.
Other symptoms would be loss of appetite, craving for salty foods, severe thirst and the need to urinate frequently. There could be various factors at the basis of Addison’s disease, such as genetic ones, but mainly it would have an autoimmune nature. It could also result from the presence of other disorders such as an abnormal production of proteins that would cause foamy urine, tuberculosis and other various diseases.

The symptoms seen so far would be the initial ones, to which others could be added over time. Gums, hands, knees, and other spots may appear a darker color. There may be joint pain and muscle cramps, depression, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as dizziness and fainting with low blood pressure.
Another effect could be the lowering of the blood sugar level, resulting in confusion and loss of concentration.
If these symptoms occur, a doctor should be consulted. The same will examine the skin to identify hypothetical darker parts and measure blood pressure while lying down and in an upright position. It will therefore be ensured that there is no lowering of the same. He could then prescribe other tests.
If you suffer from it, a timely diagnosis is important. In fact, if left untreated, the disease could have a serious consequence. It could induce an adrenal crisis in the patient. The latter would cause severe dehydration, rapid breathing, headache, paleness, sweating, cold sensation, dizziness and headache. It could also lead to a real loss of consciousness.
In the event of this circumstance, the emergency room should be alerted immediately, because the crisis could prove fatal if not adequately addressed.
You could not completely recover from Addison’s disease, but through medical prescriptions and attention it could be kept under control.
