Turin, the Italian capital for investments in hi-tech

by admin

The second edition of the Report on Innovative Startups and SMEs in Turin has just been presented: a study by the Investors’ Club that tells how with over 200 million euros raised, 2021 promises to be the record year for the city’s innovative companies.

The research analyzed the characteristics of the 543 companies based in Turin registered in the Register of Startups and Innovative SMEs and then collected the opinion of over 140 entrepreneurs. In short, a photograph of the sector that shows how much of these investments come from private funds.

Some critical issues also emerge from the research: compared to last year, entrepreneurs seem to feel less connected to the city and its “innovation system”, with a decrease of ten percentage points compared to last year (this year to 72.6%). Entrepreneurs are asking the city for more investors and more networking opportunities, and they want to raise funds from professional investors (business angels and venture capitalists). In comparison with other European cities – novelty of the 2021 edition of the Research – Turin appears behind in terms of the number of innovative companies present and the ability to attract capital, but the city shows that it possesses the elements on which to develop its own system in the next future.
“The elements to do well are all there” declared Giancarlo Rocchietti, President of the Investors’ Club, “but strategic choices must be made to maintain leadership and grow”.
