Two million Italians have been victims of Revenge porn. 14 million viewed the images. A report

About two million Italians have been victims of Revenge porn, while 14 million people have watched images of non-consensual pornography online. These are the main results of a survey conducted by TF Group srlan online reputation analysis and research and management company, on behalf of PermessoNegato.it APS, a non-profit social promotion that deals with support for victims of Non-Consensual Pornographyonline violence and hate speech.

Through an online questionnaire submitted to a statistical sample of almost 2,000representative of the distribution of the Italian population according to criteria of sex, age and region of residence, the behaviors and attitudes of Italians on the subject of non-consensual pornography, better known as ā€œRevenge Pornā€, were measured.

4% of Italians victim of Revenge porn, 9% know a victim

The survey shows in particular that 4% of Italians have been a victim of Revenge Porn and that almost 9% know a victim; the average age of the victims is about 27 years, 70% women and 30% men, while 13% belong to the LGBQT + community. Furthermore, the phenomenon is quite well known to the majority of Italians (75% have at least heard of it), but the 17% are convinced that the phenomenon does not constitute a crime in Italy, this share rises to as much as 35% among the victims; this is why half of them declare that they have not filed a complaint.

Often the unauthorized re-sharing of intimate images or videos (1 in 6 Italians claim to have produced this type of content and 1 in 4 to have seen intimate content from others) occurs after sending the content to someone “di which we trusted Ā». This theme of the loss of confidence in others (as well as in justice) also returns among the psychological and social consequences most highlighted by the victims: the sense of abandonment and loneliness is added to the most reported psychological consequences such as depression or anxiety, changes in social habits and difficulties in relationships.
