Berlin – For several weeks now, hundreds of thousands of Democrats have been demonstrating across party lines for a cosmopolitan, constitutional Germany. The Association of Replacement Funds e. V. (vdek) expressly supports these calls. Uwe Klemens, honorary chairman of the vdek association and insurance representative, explains:

“Statutory health insurance (GKV) and social care insurance (SPV) are supporting pillars of the welfare state and the basic democratic order in Germany. As vdek, we represent the interests of the six substitute health insurance companies (TK, BARMER, DAK-Gesundheit, KKH, hkk and HEK), which insure more than 28 million people in Germany – regardless of their origin, worldview, sexual identity, disability or Age and gender. Our basic principles are solidarity, co-determination and cosmopolitanism. Every person who is insured with the replacement funds is part of this solidarity community.

No place for agitation

Around 20 million residents – around one in four in Germany – have a migration background. Many of them have lived and worked here in Germany for years or decades and support our social security systems as contributors. Due to the aging population, our entire society, economy, health system and care are more dependent than ever on immigration. According to the microcensus, in 2019 almost one in four employed people in the health and care professions had immigrated themselves or had immigrant parents. For doctors it was even more than a quarter. Without our fellow foreign citizens, the healthcare system would collapse. The need for foreign skilled workers and nursing staff will continue to increase in the next few years. In order to attract urgently needed qualified personnel from abroad, we need a cosmopolitan, tolerant Germany.

A functioning healthcare system is in the interest of all people and is crucial for the prosperity of our country. Hate speech, discrimination and exclusion of foreign people have no place here.”
