wants 4,100 graduates, RSA under pressure

VENICE – The demand for sanitary ware is soaring, not only in general in Italy, but also specifically in the Northeast. After two and a half years of Covid, there is no sign of decreasing the need for professionals: doctors and, in particular at these latitudes, nurses. For the latter type of graduates, in fact, the training need estimated by Veneto is the highest at national level.

THE PROVISION

The data emerge from the agreement scheme for the needs of single-cycle master’s degree graduates in Medicine, Veterinary and Dentistry, as well as graduates and master’s degree graduates from the health professions for the academic year 2022/2023. The provision was sent by the Ministry of Health to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and to the State-Regions Conference, so that it can be included in the first useful session in view of approval. Overall, the Regions have asked to provide 70,313 places in universities, that is 10,636 more than the 59,677 of the 2021/2022 year, divided into six different areas: 31,640 (compared to the previous 27,824) for nursing, 9,336 (instead of 6,678 ) for rehabilitation, 6,098 (instead of 4,753) for technical diagnostics and technical assistance, 2,135 (no longer 1,976) for prevention, 19,307 (against 17,061) for Medicine, Veterinary and Dentistry, 1,749 for pharmacists , biologist, chemist, physicist and psychologist.

THE VOICES

Compared to the Italian total, the Northeast is worth over 10% in terms of requests made by the Regions and translated into a proposal by the ministry. Adding up the various items, Veneto asks for 6,472 professionals and Friuli Venezia Giulia 1,249. Even in these territories, the upward trend compared to last year is confirmed: as regards surgeons, for example, the solicitation for 900 (instead of 700) started from Venice, as well as the need for physiotherapists reported by Trieste rose from 60 to 62. An overall look at the needs highlights among other things in Veneto, in addition to the 900 white coats, also 70 veterinarians, 60 dentists, 90 midwives, 10 podiatrists, 170 physiotherapists, 65 speech therapists, 17 orthoptists, 25 therapists neuropsychomotricity for the developmental age, 30 psychiatric rehabilitation technicians, 30 occupational therapists, 100 professional educators, 20 audiometrists, 70 biomedical laboratory technicians, 100 medical radiology technicians, 12 physiopathology technicians, 15 orthopedic technicians, 80 hearing care professionals, 15 cardiocirculatory physiopathology technicians, 50 dental hygienists, 30 dieticians, 48 prevention technicians in the workplace, 72 health assistants, 50 pharmacists, 25 biologists, 10 chemists, 10 physicists and 10 psychologists.

IT BOOM

But what stands out above all is the boom in the demand for nurses, whose shortage in Veneto was dramatically marked during the pandemic, as seen above all in retirement homes, where the chronic lack of graduates in the sector was added escape to hospital facilities. Starting from next autumn, the Region is thus asking that 4,100 of them can enroll in basic training (plus another 60 for the master’s), that is one sixth of the 24,352 planned at national level. To say: Lombardy, which has double the number of inhabitants, expects only 3,500. However, it is clear that entry into the ward will not be immediate, since the course of study has a three-year duration. After all, the prospect of ministerial planning is also long-term, as the same scheme of agreement specifies: “The forecasts of supply and demand, taking into account the duration of the study paths and the time necessary for the training system to adapt to the training needs expressed , cover a time horizon of not less than twenty or twenty-five years, depending on the length of the university training course “.

I SUPER-US

In an attempt to stop the bleeding in the hospices, the Zaia junta approved three weeks ago the complementary training course in health care of the socio-health worker, which aims to make 510 so-called super-oss available, able to perform certain tasks hitherto the responsibility of nurses. The previous resolution on the subject, then withdrawn and reformulated, had already been challenged by the Migep federation and the Shc Oss trade union.
