by admin

Cornstarch, or corn starch, is an ingredient commonly used in the kitchen for many preparations. It is used as a thickener, as a softener in sweets, more generally it is used in all those preparations that require a certain consistency.

In the kitchen it is essential, but few know that it is also used very often in the beauty field. In fact, cornstarch has emollient and moisturizing properties that are highly appreciated in the cosmetics sector. It is used very often in the formulation of specific products, giving it an additional enrichment.

If, however, we want to use it naturally, there are many ways to make it a perfect DIY ingredient for our beauty routine.

Cornstarch can be a valid natural aid for some problems of our skin that arise in everyday life. We have always used it in the kitchen, but few people know about these amazing cosmetic uses of cornstarch.

It can be used as an ingredient for DIY emollient and moisturizing masks, as a dry shampoo (just put some on the scalp and comb, the results will be amazing) but also as a deodorant or natural hand cream.

DIY deodorant and hand cream

Cornstarch can be used as a deodorant to combat excessive sweating. It will be sufficient to mix the baking soda with the cornstarch in equal parts and spread this mixture under the armpits. The powder will absorb sweat and avoid bad smells.

But it can also be used as a very effective hand cream. In this case the “recipe” is slightly more complicated but still fun. The ingredients are as follows:

  • 50 grams of cornstarch;
  • 5 tablespoons of glycerin;
  • 230 ml of rose water;
  • a few drops of essential oil to taste.

Combine the cornstarch, glycerin and rose water in a bain-marie, until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. It is left to cool and flavored with a few drops of essential oil.

Cornstarch is a great ingredient for making a mask. If we want it purifying, just mix the cornstarch with apple cider vinegar and rosemary essential oil, until you get a thick and creamy mixture. We apply it on the face on the affected areas and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing.

If we want to create a moisturizing mask, however, we can mix the cornstarch with yogurt and honey, always until a thick mixture is obtained. We leave it on the face for about 30 minutes before rinsing.
