There are no general practitioners, above all. The alarm repeated in recent months becomes pressing, after that even in Valtellina there are ten areas that it has not been possible to cover.
So drastic decisions are required. “Every path is followed to look for and find doctors to be employed in the area – says Maria Elena Pirola, Ats medical director -. At the same time, we are asking the doctors operating in the areas where there are greater difficulties, the willingness to follow more patients than those they have assigned. It would be a question of raising the ceiling, from 1,500 to 1,800 patients at the most ”. Among other things, the problem is destined to worsen over the years, given the average age of doctors on duty.
But in a gloomy picture, hope comes from general practitioners: they are there and we need to increase them. Yesterday the new classrooms were inaugurated for them, inside the Pio XII institute in Sondrio.
