Etta the monkey and Zippy the turtle are just the last two soft toys to land in Space. Over the years, many puppets and toys have traveled with astronauts. The tradition dates back to the first space flight. Yuri Gagarin brought a doll to Vostok I in 1961. The function of the soft toys is to ‘certify’ the Zero-G: when the puppets float in the cockpit the crew is in zero gravity.
