WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram don’t work. Here’s what’s going on

by admin

Not exactly a day to frame, this Monday, October 4, for the galaxy of Mark Zuckerberg. First the words of Frances Haugen, the former manager who delivered internal research to lawmakers and the Wall Street Journal on how the social network manages content and risks for users. Then the down of all the sites and services.

WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram do not work, or work in fits and starts, in various parts of the world, including Italy. The problem occurred just before 6pm on Monday 4, and the hashtags #WhatsAppDown, #FacebookDown and #InstagramDown began to climb the twitter rankings, quickly reaching the top.

Facebook: the title falls

“We are aware that some people are having trouble accessing the Facebook app. We are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience ». This is what Facebook writes on Twitter, given that the social platform does not work in most of the world. A similar tweet was posted for WhatsApp, which was also blocked, as is Instagram.

The stock of Facebook, already sunk by the allegations of a former employee, who spoke to the Wall Street Journal, now falls 5.7%.

Offline almost everywhere

On downdetector there is a map with real-time updates of the outage in the various parts of the world. In Italy they are reported, as regards Instagram, especially in Naples, Bologna and Milan. As regards WhatsApp, however, in particular the malfunction seems to focus on Rome, Milan and Naples. Ditto for Facebook. But it is a figure that means little, because 25 thousand reports in a few minutes means that the services are offline almost everywhere throughout the peninsula.
