Viking survival game Valheim from developer Iron Gate AB is a game many didn’t expect to become so popular. Although the full version of the game has yet to be released, early access to the game will be available from February 2021 – and it has attracted a crowd of players trying to make the game on their own in the Viking world.

Valheim puts players in the shoes of a slain Viking determined to prove he can enter Valhalla. You start with nothing and use the resources you find throughout the landscape to craft weapons, shelters, and more. As a Viking from the afterlife, your goal is to defeat the evil lurking in the shadows and destroy the enemies of the Norse god Odin.

The sandbox game has multiple biomes to explore and evil to defeat, and while it’s not technically out yet, players are wondering when it’ll be coming to Xbox consoles.
When is Valheim coming to Xbox?
During the Xbox Extended Showcase in June 2022, Microsoft announced that Valheim will be coming to Xbox consoles soon. The game was a spectacular success with an Early Access release in 2021, and will be coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S sometime in the spring of 2023.

“We’re really excited to see the world of Valheim and our amazing community open up to more people and have our PC Vikings team up with their console Shield siblings in the near future,” Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Törnqvist According to IGN in a press release. “None of this would have been possible without the incredible teams at Piktiv and Fishlabs continuing to work tirelessly on the Microsoft Store and Xbox ports, allowing us to focus on the Mistlands update and our exciting Early Access journey.”

In addition to this Xbox announcement, Vanheim will also offer Game Pass for PC players starting in the fall of 2022. Exact release dates for the PC and Xbox versions have yet to be announced.
This announcement also doesn’t change the way players access the game through Steam if they want to test out the early access version of the game at any time.

Currently, there are no confirmed plans for the game to land on any other platforms besides PC and Xbox consoles. Valheim will be an Xbox exclusive, at least for a while after the console’s release.
Will there be cross-play and cross-progress when ‘Valheim’ launches on Xbox?
For those looking to play with friends on different platforms, you’re in luck. Valheim will reportedly support full cross-play between consoles and between PC and Xbox players, meaning players will be able to connect with their friends even if they’re not playing on the same platform.
Right now, there’s no word on whether the game will support cross-progression when it launches on Xbox and PC. Developer Iron Gate AB may provide more information closer to launch.
