World day of the fight against ALS, a video tells the story of Aldo – Medicina

The celebrations for the World Day of the fight against ALS opened with the presentation of the visual poem “Days at the window”, which tells the dream and imagination journey that a patient experiences through the window of his room. The video dedicated to Aldo, a former Sicilian runner who died of SLA, but also to Aisla, the Association that takes care of patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, was screened last night at Tenute Lombardo di San Cataldo in Sicily and is from available today on youtbe. The subject is taken from the short story published by il Saggiatore, written by the Sicilian author Gabriella Sardo. From his bed with each awakening Aldo tried to fly beyond the frame of that window, abandoning himself to the long memories of a life, getting lost in his wife’s stories, trying to leave the narrow confines of his body that no longer collaborated due to the disease. And here he is, running with his friends as a child, with the girl he has loved all his life. A journey, a great race towards his marathon and the group of friends who continue to run for him today.

Davide La Paglia, contact person for Aisla Caltanissetta recalls his friendship with Aldo: “I met him when they came to our house together with his wife. a good friendship. We shared not only the pathology but the fact that we were both sportsmen. And sport gives you that extra edge, it shapes you, it gives you that discipline and that desire to fight and fight to always wanting to win, with our heads held high. Just as in sport, we met in life and in this hard path of illness. Today I am happy to be here to honor his memory together with his wonderful family “.

The visual poem is a “Yes in Sicily” production, a reality born from the idea of a group of friends with different artistic experiences such as videomaking, theater, photography, writing to talk about Sicily in a different way, through visual stories where they tell about places, traditions and stories. “We wanted to deal with this theme without ever mentioning the disease. It was a difficult challenge but one that came spontaneously following the words of Gabriella, whose lyrics are the subject of the visual poem. We wanted to give her an important role in the clip: Gabriella plays the wife of Aldo, the one who opens the window with Giorgio. The text separates from the screenplay as if to take on a form of its own. Opening the window means going further, overcoming the barrier, overturning the schemes. Vincenzo Amico, Vitale Vancheri, Massimo Palmigiano and all the Yes in Sicily friends we discovered an intense, profound emotionality “- comments the director Giuseppe Palmeri. Created in synergy with the CGS Don Bosco San Cataldo Theater @ boratorio and Massimo Palmigiano pics & clips, the visual poem contains a curiosity: the running child is Giorgio Falzone, Aldo’s nephew.

For Fulvia Massimelli and Michele La Pusata, respectively president and national vice president of Aisla, “there could not have been a better occasion to start the celebrations of the World Day of the fight against ALS. Today we experienced great emotions. Days at the Window is a story to get to know each other and Aldo’s is a race that Aisla will continue to do until, we hope as soon as possible, to turn the page and finally start writing a new one for the history of the disease “.
