It’s been nearly a year since Microsoft confirmed it was working on an official “Xbox Game Streaming Stick” last June. However, according to GamesBeat, the streaming device will arrive in the next 12 months, and not only that, Microsoft is also developing an Xbox app for smart TVs.
As for the streaming device, it may be “stick-shaped” or “pie-shaped”, which means it may look like Amazon’s Fire Stick or Google’s Chromecast. In addition to streaming games from Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, it’s also said to be capable of watching movies and TV shows like many TV sticks out there.
As for the app, it is rumored that Microsoft is working with Samsung to develop an Xbox app for the company’s TV. Some of Samsung’s 2022 TV models already support Google Stadia and NVIDIA GeForce Now, so more Xbox cloud gaming apps seem reasonable.
The range of “12 months” sounds like a lot, but at least it sounds like Microsoft hasn’t given up on developing this product, so it’s more a matter of when Microsoft decides to make it public. The most recent opportunity is the joint game show held by Xbox and Bethesda on June 12. Maybe there will be unexpected hardware surprises outside the game news and trailers?
