Zithromax antibiotic: what it is for and why it should not be prescribed against Covid

Zithromax – azithromycin molecule – is nowhere to be found. For days this antibiotic and its generic versions have disappeared from Italian pharmacies. On the reasons for now the mystery reigns: speculation? Procurement rush? And by whom? A mixture of the two? What is certain is that the demand has increased exponentially in recent weeks, coinciding with the spike in infections from Sars-Cov-2 brought by the Omicron variant.
