11 women have been murdered in El Salvador between January and March

by admin

At least 11 women were murdered in El Salvador between January and March 2024, according to information offered by the Organization of Salvadoran Women for Peace (Ormusa), which warns about “a trend of lack of protection” for women in the country.

Among the murders is that of the women’s rights defender in Sonsonate, whose remains were found seven days after her disappearance was reported, without the National Civil Police (PNC) reporting the death or finding those responsible, he indicated in press conference Silvia Juárez, program coordinator of the feminist organization.

Juárez assured that “the trend in the year regarding the lack of protection and insecurity of women continues” and warned that “this shows that the lives of women are still highly unprotected and that the trend, despite the drop in homicides, the number of violent deaths of women and femicides continues to be in the red.

Government institutions have kept secret or denied access to data on the violence that continues to engulf El Salvador, including information on femicides.

Representatives of a feminist consortium, made up of five non-governmental women’s organizations and a community association, warned last March about the increase in the murders of women perpetrated by their partners in El Salvador and regretted “the silence” of the authorities in the face of this situation. .
