The 2024 Spring Festival Gala, aired by the China Central Radio and Television Station, set a new record for communication data this year, reported the Xinhua News Agency. According to the news agency, the Gala’s total viewership across media platforms reached a staggering 14.2 billion, marking a 29% increase from the previous year. Notably, young users aged 15-44 accounted for 51.59% of the audience, indicating a strong and diverse viewership.

The new media coverage of the event also saw unprecedented numbers. The live broadcast on new media platforms garnered 795 million users and 1.689 billion viewers, showcasing a 15.13% increase from last year. Additionally, the on-demand videos related to the Spring Festival Gala were streamed 4.363 billion times. TV viewership of the Gala was equally impressive, with a 75.61% total live viewing share in the national TV market, and the main station’s broadcast channel achieving a record high share in the past nine years.

Beyond the impressive numbers, the Gala also received widespread acclaim on various social media platforms. The event sparked 26.777 billion discussions, reflecting a 49.76% increase from the previous year. Netizens praised the program’s representation of Chinese culture and traditions and left messages of affirmation and appreciation for the diverse performances.

The Gala’s outreach extended beyond China, with overseas reading numbers and landing media reaching record highs. Reportedly, the event was broadcast live in 200 countries and regions around the world, with multi-lingual reports being read overseas more than 695 million times and videos garnering 250 million views. Notably, the Spring Festival Gala was broadcast live on Russian TV and its new media platforms, as well as on Niconico, Japan’s largest video website.

A high point for the Gala’s global outreach was the broadcast of the event on public large screens in 49 countries and 90 cities across all continents. Thousands of screens around the world lit up to showcase the Spring Festival Gala, promoting the celebration of Chinese culture and traditions across the globe.
