Zheng Shaoxiong is 24 years old this year and just graduated from the Institute of Chicago University in July.

The Chicago police said that Zheng Shaoxiong met the robber on the sidewalk between 54th Street and Ellis Ave near the Chicago University campus at 1:54 pm on the 9th. At that time, a dark-colored vehicle suddenly stopped beside him, and a male suspect got out of the vehicle and approached him and demanded that he surrender his belongings. During the robbery, the suspect fired several shots at Zheng Shaoxiong. One of the bullets hit him in the chest, and he fell to the ground on the spot with blood flowing. Although passers-by provided emergency assistance to Zheng Shaoxiong, he died unfortunately after being sent to the Chicago University Hospital.

The University of Chicago issued a statement confirming the identity of the victim after the shooting, and stated that the school is cooperating with the local police department to collect more information about the case to help solve the case as soon as possible. The Chicago Police Department also immediately increased patrols near the campus and encouraged nearby residents to be vigilant and exercise caution.

The police said that the gangster jumped into the car and escaped after committing the crime. The case is still under investigation.

She told the media that she has lived in the area for 20 years. There are many University of Chicago students and faculty living in the area, and it has always been quiet and safe. The Greater Chicago Association of Overseas Chinese and Chinese issued a public statement on the afternoon of the 10th, stating that the association has contacted Zheng Shaoxiong’s family and is currently assisting his family in handling funeral matters in the United States.
