The vascular specialist has treated thousands of patients. On Monday the funeral, also broadcast via streaming

TREVISO. For his patients he was not just a doctor to rely on: he was a confidant, a doctor who came home on Saturday afternoon if there was an urgent problem, who passed in the ward of the loneliest people on Sunday morning if there were no relatives. And if you had a swollen leg, he was ready to give you a Doppler echo to dispel any doubts.

He passed away at 1pm yesterday in the Casa dei Gelsi, lovingly assisted by the staff, his wife Patrizia and his son Francesco, Dr. Enrico Boscolo, 64 years old on 21 July, one of the most experienced angiologists and vascular surgeons around. A life spent treating patients, assisting them, supporting them, instilling positivity. Originally from Carpenedo, resident in Preganziol with a private studio in Mogliano, the backbone of the Villa Salus hospital in Mestre, where not a day passed, since he fell ill in June 2020, for anyone to ask for him. Cancer showed up in the summer last year. But Dr. Boscolo still reassured his patients: “I’m doing tests, if I don’t answer, call them back.” But it was clear that something was wrong. He was worried. The answering machine was always full.

He was treated for the whole year of Covid at the civil hospital in Verona, where they did everything possible for him, in the department of General Surgery and Esophagus and Stomach directed by Professor Giovanni de Manzoni. Peritonitis at the end of December. Outdated. The good news in April. The doctor had gone back to wearing the white coat, visiting Sister Rodolfa with his ten-year shoulder at Villa Salus, and had reopened Mogliano’s office. Someone had time, between May and June, to greet him and return to him. Then, suddenly, the enemy returned and this time the doctor didn’t make it. «He treated all of Veneto» says his son, Francesco, «he was not just any doctor, he was a special doctor. For him his work was a mission, his life.

On Sundays with the loneliest patients, overtime at night, on Saturday visits to the home of those who couldn’t manage to go ». Doctors and patients from all over Italy will arrive at the funeral, Monday at 9 am in the church of Santa Maria Goretti in Mestre, and the funeral directors of Paolo Lucarda, dell’Angelo, have also provided a live streaming on the Facebook page. “He was always available,” his son still remembers, “he always tried to find a solution and if he hadn’t, he recommended another doctor whom he trusted one hundred percent.” In these months of illness, Dr. Guerrino Voltarel, right arm of De Manzoni, became a friend who accompanied him in his treatment, to be close to him from a professional and human point of view. «A doctor like him» says the son «with the same passion and mission in his heart. When he stayed for a month in December and we couldn’t visit him because of Covid, his doctor brought the newspaper to his room every day ». A unique relationship born in the most difficult moment. “My dad, even towards the end, always told me to remember the shis patients, to warn everyone, to tell colleagues, friends, he gave himself to everyone without looking at names, surnames, for him they were all the same ». As a reminder, the CEO of Villa Salus: «Let’s say goodbye to an old-fashioned gentleman and a doctor. Doctor Boscolo embodied the humanity of the cure. He arrived at the hospital every day at dawn, or perhaps even earlier, to put himself at the service of his patients. He was an exemplary professional, always present, who tried to answer the problems of the people he followed in the shortest possible time. How many times have we seen him racing for an unexpected and urgent visit, framing the thousand commitments of the day! Enrico will miss the community of Villa Salus and the city ».
