«A Mountain of Books» returns to Cortina with over thirty face-to-face meetings: it will be the winter of the restart

CORTINA. “It is the great winter of the restart”. A new season of emotions with the authors on the snow of the Dolomites is about to begin: to inaugurate the Cortina d’Ampezzo season is the twenty-fifth edition of A Mountain of Books.

The international literature festival is the protagonist of the Queen of the Dolomites, which since 2009 has attracted an annual audience of 20,000. “While the Alps are already skiing, we are about to leave with over 30 meetings in person, with Italian and international writers, with all the enthusiasm and love for ideas that Cortina can demonstrate ”, says Francesco Chiamulera, festival manager.

A Mountain of Books is preparing to bring to Cortina a very rich program, including literature, current events, science and art. The XXV Edition will be held from 11 December 2021 to 26 March 2022.

An edition in the sign of the restart of the winter of Cortina, that of Una Montagna di Libri, over a period of over four months. From the incredible encounter with David Leavitt, one of the most beloved American storytellers of recent decades, who will talk about his novel set in Venice, “The decor”, but above all about the new Italian translation of his masterpiece “The lost language of cranes” (Sem), which will make its premiere Italian in Cortina, at the meetings with the French Emmanuel Carrere, author of “Yoga”, which in Cortina will also talk about the “trial of the century”, which he is following in Paris for the Islamist massacre of the Bataclan, with the Dutch writer Jan Bokken, author of the splendid “The soul of the city”, with Alessandro Piperno, with the new novel “Whose fault is it”.

On the strength of the extraordinary results in 2020/21 of its digital channel, in media partnership with Corriere Tv, for the XXV Edition Una Montagna di Libri has absolute novelties in store. The festival will talk about Africa, health and pandemic with Don Dante Carraro, soul of CUAMM of Padua; will welcome the meeting with the screenwriter and the leading actress of Freaks Out, the revelation film of 2021: Nicola Guaglianone and the very young Aurora Giovinazzo; it will question an author of international importance such as Tom Nichols on the crisis of democracy and competence; will bring to the Cortina Rock Gym a special meeting with Eleonora Recalcati who will tell about the friendship between Bob Kennedy and the mountaineer Jim Whittaker.

It will keep a light on rights lit by hosting, in a special meeting with Jo Squillo, the screening of “Positive”, the first Italian documentary on HIV-positive people in Italy today. And then, with a special tribute to Dino Buzzati, whose 50th anniversary will be celebrated in 2022, he will bring two annual meetings of the festival in the Sala Buzzati in Via Solferino in Milan, starting a journey towards the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics.

A Mountain of Books will take place in the public spaces of the Palazzo delle Poste and the Alexander Girardi Hall.
