CORTINA. “It is the great winter of the restart”. A new season of emotions with the authors on the snow of the Dolomites is about to begin: to inaugurate the Cortina d’Ampezzo season is the twenty-fifth edition of A Mountain of Books.
The international literature festival is the protagonist of the Queen of the Dolomites, which since 2009 has attracted an annual audience of 20,000. “While the Alps are already skiing, we are about to leave with over 30 meetings in person, with Italian and international writers, with all the enthusiasm and love for ideas that Cortina can demonstrate ”, says Francesco Chiamulera, festival manager.
A Mountain of Books is preparing to bring to Cortina a very rich program, including literature, current events, science and art. The XXV Edition will be held from 11 December 2021 to 26 March 2022.

An edition in the sign of the restart of the winter of Cortina, that of Una Montagna di Libri, over a period of over four months. From the incredible encounter with David Leavitt, one of the most beloved American storytellers of recent decades, who will talk about his novel set in Venice, “The decor”, but above all about the new Italian translation of his masterpiece “The lost language of cranes” (Sem), which will make its premiere Italian in Cortina, at the meetings with the French Emmanuel Carrere, author of “Yoga”, which in Cortina will also talk about the “trial of the century”, which he is following in Paris for the Islamist massacre of the Bataclan, with the Dutch writer Jan Bokken, author of the splendid “The soul of the city”, with Alessandro Piperno, with the new novel “Whose fault is it”.
Great space for Italian and international news, with the voices of Federico Rampini, author of “Stopping Beijing”, by Cecilia Sala first Italian journalist in Kabul after the return of the Taliban, by Bruno Vespa, by Gennaro Sangiuliano, Simone Pieranni, Aldo Cazzullo. TO Marco Paolini the first Italian tribute will be given to Luigi Meneghello, on the centenary of the birth of the great writer from Malo. TO Fiona Diwan ed Antonia Arslan an invitation to reread the great Isaac B. Singer.
The Una Montagna di Libri program was presented in Venice by Cortina by Francesco Chiamulera, responsible for the Ampezzo event. Speakers included Luigi Alverà, Deputy Mayor of Cortina d’Ampezzo, and Cristiano Corazzari, Councilor for Culture of the Veneto Region. “A Mountain of Books is masterfully organized. The municipal administration of Cortina continues its support for the event, which again this season will give rhythm to the cultural life of Cortina d’Ampezzo with its appointments ”, said Deputy Mayor Luigi Alverà. “Una Montagna di Libri proposes itself as a hub for encounters, ideas and cultural passions at a local, national and international level. A point of excellence of which we are all proud and that the Veneto Region continues to support ”, declares Councilor Cristiano Corazzari.

Una Montagna di Libri will leaf through the pages of Italian and world storytellers of the caliber of David Leavitt, Emmanuel Carrère, Alessandro Piperno, Jan Brokken, Antonia Arslan, Mauro Corona, Fiona Shelly Diwan and Marco Paolini’s homage to Meneghello. He will bring art, cinema and science to the stage with Marco Goldin, Nicola Guaglianone, Aurora Giovinazzo, Nicola Magrin, Simone Aleandri, Francesco Maddaloni. He will address the absolute protagonists of information and journalism such as Tom Nichols, Federico Rampini, Cecilia Sala, Simone Pieranni, Bruno Vespa, Gennaro Sangiuliano, Aldo Cazzullo, Venanzio Postiglione, Paolo Cagnan, Alessandro Russello, Giovanni Viafora, Marisa Fumagalli, Massimo Mamoli, Alessandro Zangrando, Alessandra Tedesco, Lorenzo Fabiano, Alessandro Mezzena Lona, Lavinia Spingardi. He will listen to the voices of culture, entertainment, entrepreneurship, sport, such as Dante Carraro, Oscar Farinetti, Jo Squillo, Eleonora Recalcati, Daniele Zovi, Paola Magoni, Annina Pedrini. And again, Giovanni Cecchinato, Steve Bisson, Cristiano Corazzari, Gianpietro Ghedina, Vera Slepoj, Paolo Maria Noseda, Sarah Cuminetti, Gianluca d’Incà Levis, Riccardo Caldura, Carla Toffolo, Silvia Benazzi, Michele Uliana, Sandra Alverà and many others. On the strength of the extraordinary results in 2020/21 of its digital channel, in media partnership with Corriere Tv, for the XXV Edition Una Montagna di Libri has absolute novelties in store. The festival will talk about Africa, health and pandemic with Don Dante Carraro, soul of CUAMM of Padua; will welcome the meeting with the screenwriter and the leading actress of Freaks Out, the revelation film of 2021: Nicola Guaglianone and the very young Aurora Giovinazzo; it will question an author of international importance such as Tom Nichols on the crisis of democracy and competence; will bring to the Cortina Rock Gym a special meeting with Eleonora Recalcati who will tell about the friendship between Bob Kennedy and the mountaineer Jim Whittaker.
It will keep a light on rights lit by hosting, in a special meeting with Jo Squillo, the screening of “Positive”, the first Italian documentary on HIV-positive people in Italy today. And then, with a special tribute to Dino Buzzati, whose 50th anniversary will be celebrated in 2022, he will bring two annual meetings of the festival in the Sala Buzzati in Via Solferino in Milan, starting a journey towards the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics.
Where: the places of the Festival
A Mountain of Books will take place in the public spaces of the Palazzo delle Poste and the Alexander Girardi Hall. And then at the historic Cortinese hotel Miramonti Majestic Grand Hotel, and at the Mario Rimoldi Museum of Modern Art. But Una Montagna di Libri is also #live, combining Twitter and Instagram with the interactive live stream of meetings, via Facebook and YouTube.
