With an almost unanimous vote, the Chamber approved the amendments to the European delegation law that transpose the 2016 European directive on strengthening the presumption of innocence into Italian law. The directive merely establishes certain principles of civilization, which however resonate as revolutionary in a country like ours, which has long been the home of media pillories and the anticipated blaming of people involved in judicial cases. This explains the five years of delay with which Italy adopts the European text, as well as the intense mediation work that the new Keeper of Seals Marta Cartabia has had to carry out in recent weeks to persuade all political forces to reach an agreement.
