Struck during a change of scene, show interrupted
(ANSA) – MOSCOW, OCTOBER 10 – An artist from the legendary Bolshoi Theater in Moscow died tonight in an accident on stage during the performance of an opera. The company reported it.
The incident – according to what has been specified – occurred during a change of scene in Sadko, a 19th century opera by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
“The show was immediately stopped and the audience was asked to leave,” the theater’s press service told the Interfax news agency.
An investigation has been opened on the death of the 37-year-old actor. Investigators did not disclose the victim’s name, but stated that he was injured in the accident and died before the ambulance arrived.
It is not the first time that a fatal accident has occurred at the Bolshoi: in 2013, a violinist died after falling into the orchestra pit. (HANDLE).
