Added 370 daily bus rides to bring students back to class

UDINE. Over 370 additional trips every day, urban and extra-urban, which will be made possible by the use of no less than 144 buses more than those that would have been used for an “ordinary” school transport plan in the pre-Covid period, without restrictions on the number of passengers. But since the maximum coverage of each vehicle has been set at 80%, in order to better guarantee the spacing, here is the need to increase the number of trips and vehicles used thanks to the organizational and economic support of the Region which will anticipate the resources to cope with the higher outlay: “Last year it was one million euros a month, and even for the school year that is about to begin, the resources to be put in should be oriented on that figure”, the commissioner explained yesterday regional transport and territory, Graziano Pizzimenti, underlining that “the resumption of teaching in presence at 100% represents” an essential point for the regional administration “.

«Without prejudice to the application of all the necessary safety protocols to avoid an increase in infections – remarked Pizzimenti -, students must be guaranteed return to the classroom and direct interpersonal relationships with teachers and classmates. Therefore the Region intervened to allow an increase in the number of journeys, more than 370 throughout the Friuli Venezia Giulia territory, in order to be able to compensate for the limitations deriving from the maximum vehicle filling limit which will not exceed 80%, both now and in the event of a possible return to the yellow zone ».

Therefore, the transport plan has now taken shape in view of the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, the result of the collaboration between Prefects and the Region. Yesterday afternoon, in the Prefecture of Trieste, the decisive summit was held: present, for the regional administration, also the councilor for Education and University, Alessia Rosolen, and the deputy governor with responsibility for Health, Riccardo Riccardi. «The main objective, in addition to increasing the number of races adequate to compensate for the limited capacity, was to provide for a single shift, without staggering, and we succeeded – said Pizzimenti -. In Trieste the only exception will be that represented by Galilei, but at the request of the same institute and it will in any case be staggered by a quarter of an hour, not more ”.

The operational details for Trieste and Udine were defined yesterday. Between today and tomorrow it will also be the turn of the provinces of Gorizia and Pordenone. In Trieste, 24 more lines are planned with another 3 optionally available and which will in particular cover the needs of Galilei and Petrarca, Volta, Fabiani and Galvani, in addition to the Muggia-Trieste-San Giovanni lines. The only staggered turn, as mentioned, will be that of Galilei.

In the meantime, the knot of controls remains to be solved, which implies a clarification intervention from Rome. “In fact, we are still waiting for information because it is not known exactly what duties the controllers on the buses will have”, he puntualized Pizzimenti.
