Some time ago the New York Times published a guide in which it gave advice to parents for raising children who are passionate about books. “First, start reading again”, it was written. “If you have recently put aside reading, make sure that it becomes part of your days again. Take the time and space to immerse yourself in a book, because the first rule to grow a reader is to be a reader ”.
The guide advised parents to read anything aloud: cookbooks, science fiction books, or newspaper articles.
“The content is not important, what matters is to let the children hear the sound of your voice. Give them the attention they deserve: as you read, look for them and don’t worry if you get the impression that they are not listening to you, they are probably just concentrated. Don’t just read before bed, but also during the day. Let them discover your tastes, but respect their preferences. And at a certain point you start exchanging books “.
Considering that according to the National Statistical Institute in Italy young people read more than adults, reverse the roles and make these rules your own. It is the ideal time to go all together on new adventures without moving from the sofa.
