Minister, ‘dramatic situation’ to arrive at Kabul airport

(ANSA) – MADRID, AUGUST 24 – Despite the efforts to evacuate “as many people as possible” from Afghanistan, there will be some “who will remain there” due to the “truly dramatic situation” in Kabul and the difficulties for to be able to get to the airport and flee the country: this was stated by the Spanish Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, in an interview granted to radio Cadena Ser.

“The Taliban are becoming more and more aggressive”, added Robles, “there is a very evident situation of violence”.

Furthermore, the Spanish minister added, many collaborators of the Iberian country reside in other areas of Afghanistan, which is why reaching Kabul is particularly complicated for them. “We are doing what we can”, added Robles, but “there will be people who will stay there for reasons that are not up to us.” In the next few hours, more than 400 people evacuated from Kabul on board three planes are expected in Spain.
