Ah, they weren’t “crazy expenses”

The Court of Appeal of Genoa acquitted all the defendants who had been sentenced in the first instance to prison terms of up to 3 years and 5 months for the so-called “crazy expenses” in Liguria that caused a scandal two years ago. Now it turns out that that terrible crime “does not exist”. The heaviest sentence had been imposed on Edoardo Rixi, then leader of the Lega group in Liguria, who had also been Deputy Minister of Infrastructure. The application of the Severino law (which, however, only takes a final sentence) would have excluded him from public office, blocking his promising political career. Together with him, all the other first-degree convicts were acquitted. The story arises from the contestation of some receipts and then gradually took on a completely unreasonable significance. Of course the headlines that were dedicated to the sentence will not be replicated to inform of its cancellation on appeal, we are used to it. The executioners chew bitter but just wait for the next opportunity to hypocritically tear their clothes. Matteo Salvini commented by saying: “Justice is done, but we expect an apology from professional executioners”.
