Are there no nurses in nursing homes? “We supply them to you.” Word of Albert Nikolla, Albanian Deputy Minister of Health with a long past in the province of Belluno. Nikolla owes the unexpected turning point in his life to the fortuitous meeting with Don Fabio Cassol, to the books of Dino Buzzati and to his great propensity to help others: a mix of spirituality, initiative and passion for work that have deeply marked him. “Your community has given me so much and in my soul I will always feel like a Bellunese,” he told Corriere delle Alpi.

Last week the deputy minister was a guest in Veneto, thanks to the Rotary Club Belluno, and had numerous meetings at political, business and social level. The first with the regional councilor Manuela Lanzarin, with the aim of strengthening the exchange between Italian and Albanian nurses and doctors. “In Albania we have numerous health professionals from Italy, I am only thinking of the Salus in Tirana. With the commissioner Lanzarin “, explains Nikolla,” I would like to guarantee the presence of Albanian health personnel in the Venetian hospitals and, above all, in the RSA.

In this regard, the Rotary Club Belluno has launched its own service to train new social health workers with scholarships. Scholarships also open to people from other countries who are interested in coming to live in Belluno.

Another project that Deputy Minister Nikolla will carry out concerns some areas of Albania where, during the Second World War, tens of thousands of Italian soldiers lost their lives. «There are 29,000 bodies of Alpine soldiers perished in the Second World War that have yet to be recovered. It is important to give them a proper burial and return them to their loved ones ”. For this reason, also during his visit to Italy, Nikolla met the national president of Ana, Sebastiano Favero. «We want to sign a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the recovery of those missing in the war. We also want to create a path of “Memory”, following the paths where Italian soldiers fought and lost their lives ».

During his stay in Belluno there was a visit to the president of the Rotary Club of Belluno, Patrizia Pedone, with the whole Board of Directors. And here is solidarity: the sending of numerous medical instruments and appliances to Albania was organized, thanks to the interest of Rotary and Ana. They will allow the construction of a state-of-the-art clinic in the cities of Permeti and Tepeleni.

Also thanks to Rotary, the deputy minister also met the leaders of the Bellunesi nel Mondo association, companies and retirement homes and the prefect of Belluno, Mariano Savastano. The visit to the province ended with an event organized by the Cantiere della Provvidenza at the “Cantiere del baco” and dedicated to European planning in the agricultural sector.

“In 2019 Albania had the green light to open negotiations so that our country can soon join the European Union,” concludes Nikolla. «It is important for us to learn to design at a European level by those who have already gained this experience. From the collaboration with the Cantiere della Provvidenza and with Rotary we will be able to carry out numerous projects, to the benefit not only of Albania, but of the whole of Europe ».
