Alitalia, the EU authorizes aid with a dropper, 12.8 million euros. The take-off of Ita slips again

The EU Commission has approved public aid of 12.835 million euros allocated by Italy to compensate Alitalia for the damage suffered due to the coronavirus pandemic in January 2021. The Commission’s decision

The EU Commission announced on Wednesday evening that it had approved the 12.8 million in aid. “The approved measure _ the Commission said in a note _ allows Italy to further compensate the direct damages suffered by Alitalia in January 2021”. For the EU, the measure is proportionate and “the compensation does not go beyond what is necessary” to compensate for the damage.

Salaries

This sum barely covers the costs for staff salaries for one month. Alitalia has already paid late March and April salaries. Faced with the lack of liquidity, on 21 April the government approved an urgent provision, in a decree law, which allows financial advances up to 53 million to Alitalia, these are the residual unused funds of the 350 million allocated in 2020 Coronavirus damage suffered by Alitalia.This standard has not been agreed or authorized by the EU.

So far Brussels has authorized 310 million

Previously, the Commission had authorized the disbursement to Alitalia of approximately 297 million, all already paid to the company and already used. With this latest authorization for 12.835 million, the total aid authorized by Brussels is “over 310 million”, observes Brussels in a note.

The Mise announces another 100 million in aid

The other news on Alitalia is the government’s intention, announced by the Mise on May 12, to include an additional 100 million in public aid in the next Sostegni 2 decree, which should be examined by the Council of Ministers next week. The aim is to finance the operational activities of Alitalia.
