AMALFI – After the NCC in revolt also taxi drivers for the 10 euro fee to pick up and drop off passengers in Amalfi, but there is no tax. Singular what happened in the past few hours in the lead country of the Divina, where some unions have written to the mayor Daniele Milano, the prefect of Naples and the president of the Campania regional council, Vincenzo De Luca, to request the cancellation of the provision. A misunderstanding, an extensive interpretation of the resolution that provides for the payment of 10 euros relating to Nccs. “At the moment no taxi driver pays to drop off or pick up passengers in Amalfi,” explains the mayor Daniele Milano. In recent days there has been a meeting between the representatives of the NCC operators and the mayor to discuss the issue. The resolution provides for the payment of 10 euros for a five-minute stop to pick up or drop off passengers from the car. On the other hand, vehicles that provide for the transfer of visitors to hotels and non-hotels in Amalfi are exempt from paying the rate.
A very controversial story, with NCC operators who feel discriminated against with respect to other categories, such as that of taxi drivers, and above all who complain about a tax that is too high that could negatively affect the trend of the tourist season. «The taxi service fulfills the function of a public service, like scheduled transport. And it is distinguished from the NCC service, as a service from the square at an administered rate and not from remittance – write the trade union acronyms Inimpresa / Mobilità, Sitan / Atn, Orsa / Taxi and Confail / Taxi in the letter also addressed to the mayor of Milan – The circumstance provokes an aggravation of the economic conditions of the service: either the cost of parking is charged to customers, or it is subtracted from the consideration for the service with economic damage to a sector already in crisis in demand, which for just a few days has been experiencing a small recovery of work”. A prospect averted for the moment. The tourism-related transport sector comes from a period of very serious difficulty caused by the pandemic. In recent years, hundreds of thousands of people arrived on the Amalfi Coast in the summer months and, in addition to hotels and accommodation facilities, created employment for the entire industry.
The limitations related to Covid have practically blown up the first part of the tourist season which, however, is coming to life. In this 2021 it seems that the long-awaited turnaround is starting with the tourism sector that is slowly trying to restart. In this context, it is important to underline that the collaboration between the institutions and all the operators of the sector works at its best, to ensure that the Amalfi Coast is ready to welcome those who choose it for their holidays. As regards the gabelle that triggered the protests of the NCC, the mayor of Milan is working to find the right solutions in order to better manage the traffic flows towards the historic center and at the same time not penalize the operators: “We listened to the representatives of the categories – concludes Milan – we are evaluating the improvements to be made to the service ».
